Dec 27, 2011

Did you get that new bowling ball that you wanted? Was it a plastic ball or one of the newer ones. Did you have it drilled conventional or finger tipped?  We do hope each of you had a great Christmas, and had some quality time to reflect, and to enjoy the time with your friends and family.
Don’t forget New Years Eve.  There will be a 7-8-9 doubles bowling tournament at Fast Lanes in Hoopeston. This means the 1st game if you get 7 or more pins, it counts as a strike, 2nd game, 8 or more, and the 3rd game, 9 or more pins count as a strike. Very similar to no tap, but with a slight twist. Tournament is scheduled to start at 7pm.
The Warrick Ford Open is Sunday Jan 15 at 10:00, Illinois time at Sycamore Lanes in Covington. Great way to start the new year.
A report from the Tuesday Morning league tells us that Judy Mariage bowled 53 pins over her 121 average, for a score of 174..
In the Tuesday Nite Go-Getters , Joe Elliott topped his average by 51 pins for a 180. Both Steve Lamb, and Cheryl Rhoton tallied 64 pins over their averages, Lamb with a 216, and Rhoton with a 186. Lamb was also 51 pins over with a 203. Not only did Lamb roll some good games, he was also able to pick up the 3-10 split.  Other converts were Margaret Birge, Tracy Smith, and Gerald Arnett, all of which converted the 3-10. Dick Lamb snagged the 5-10, Mac McDaniel, the 5-6, and Houston Key corralled the 3-6-7-10. Martha Elliott picked up the 5-7, while Greg Miller showed us how easy it was to pick up the 7-8.
In The Senior League Looks as if Ernie Harvey was the best bowler of the week with his scores of 232, 202, and a 198, for a 632 series. He was 107 pins over his series average. Joe Blagg had a 244 game which gave him 77 pins over his game average. Rule of the week review:
Rule 4 – Delivering the Ball
4a. Legal Delivery
A delivery is made when the ball leaves the player’s possession and crosses the foul line into playing territory. Every delivery counts unless a dead ball is declared. (See Rule 8.) A delivery must be made entirely by manual means. No device may be incorporated in or affixed to the ball that detaches on delivery or is a moving part during delivery except as provided in Rule 4b and Rule 4c.
4b. Special Equipment to Grip the Ball
A player may use special equipment to aid in grasping and delivering the ball if it is in place of a hand, or major portion thereof, lost by amputation or otherwise.
4c. Mechanical Aids to Grip the Ball - Alternating Delivery
A player may, if granted permission by USBC Headquarters and each league or tournament in which the player participates, alternate right/left-handed delivery and/or use special equipment to aid in grasping and delivering the ball.
1. Unless the individual is unable to impart force or impetus to a ball, the aid cannot incorporate a mechanical device with moving parts that would impart force or impetus to the ball.
2. Permission may be granted if the following is submitted to USBC Headquarters:
a. A doctor’s certificate describing the disability and the reason to alternate right/lefthanded delivery and/or recommending the aid.
b. A description, drawing or model of the aid (only for mechanical aid).
Here’s wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas.
Looking forward to the new year, my hope is for a 300 game, or even my 1st 600 series. What’s yours? Wishing a Happy New Year to all.
Until next week, let’s have fun and knock ‘em down.
