Dec 7, 2010

Hey bowlers. Hope everyone had a great week, and you were able to keep warm.  Did all the snow we received on Saturday hamper any of your bowling activities?  I went down to Lincoln Lanes on Saturday morning, and watched the Youth League for a bit, but called Bulan’s before I left home, and found that their youth League had been cancelled, yes, that’s right, because of the snow. I would imagine they would make up that week, possibly by extending the season.
Kevin West has top bowling honors for the week, after rolling a 279 in the Men’s 332 League on Tuesday night. That was 59 pins over his 220 average. His other 2 games were a 246, and a 225, giving him a 750 series, 90 pins over his series average.
The Tuesday nite Go-Getters also had some bowlers who rolled 50 or more pins over their averages, as well as picking up some good splits.  I really need to take some lessons from these bowlers, and maybe I could actually get some scores over, say a 125? Melissa Castle rolled a 184, 53 pins over her average. Fred Fultz, +51, Irvin Summers, + 57, Russ Puzzey +72, Maggie Tiffin, +61, Dot Tiffin, + 54 pins, and Di Summers was 51 pins over her average. Cheryl Rhoton snagged 2 splits, the 3,6,7,10 and the 5-10. Paula Tate, 5-6, Maggie Birge, 2-5-7, and Deb Miller snared the 5-7.  Just a reminder, if the head pin is standing, it is NOT a split. Donna Berlin and Laura Baird take top honors this week in the Senior League,  with Donna bowling 65 pins over average, and Laura was no slouch, rolling 61 pins over her’s. Clara Copsey was 60 over,  Judy Arnett 58, and Dale Lierman 56. It was a family affair with Bill and Dot McDaniels.  Bill was 59 over, while Dot scored 52.  Some great games!!!  The Church No Tap league also reporting in with some great scores, even after the higher standards were enacted. Sue Strong rolled a 256, with  Shirley Perryman topping out at 254. Congratulations to Richard Morgan with 107 pins over his average. Others with 50 or more over their average are: Sue Strong-55, Shirley Perryman-89, Mike ONeill-56, Lynnse Gondzur-57 and Louise Cunningham-55Brock Dieu and Nancy Goodner both picked up the 5-10 split. Jennie Kile rolled a 236 in the Friday nite Carpenter League.
Rule of the week :
    More on fouls:
5a/3   A member of a team crosses onto an adjacent approach when making a delivery.  Is this considered a foul?  A foul is not called when a bowler crosses onto an adjoining approach area. However, if the bowler steps over the foul line on that lane, it is considered a foul.
5a/4  Is a foul called when the ball rolls over the foul line during delivery and the foul detector is activated?  The bowling ball is not considered a part of the bowler’s body. If the bowler did not step on or go beyond the foul line, a foul is not recorded.
If you have an amusing or even funny story about one of your bowling experiences, drop me a note, and tell it to me. It might make the column. It is sometimes funny to make fun of yourself, and give others a laugh.  For example, one time I bowled a 98 in no tap. Another incident that was told to me, is when a woman became so excited, her dentures flew out. Bottom line, is to have fun while you are bowling. Bowling, a great way to have fun with your family or friends.
If you are enjoying the column, or have any comments, drop us an e-mail. We would love to hear from you.
Until next week, let’s have fun and knock ‘em down.
