Jan 25, 2011

High game this week goes to Nick Grubb with a 299, in the Monday nite Mixed League at Bulan’s Bowl. What a great score. Rich McFarland rolled a 264 with a 726 series.  Shari Hetrick rolled a 229 77 pins over her 152 average.  Kim Mitchell was 54 pins over her 146 average with an even 200.
In the Tuesday Nite Go-Getters, Dick Lamb and Dot Tiffin picked up the 5-10 split, while Gerald Arnett picked up the 3-8. In the Westville Tuesday morning Ladies League, Phyllis Rutan, a 151 average bowler, rolled  152, 225 and a 220. Great games Phyllis. The 332 league, Evan Davis rolled 55 pins over his average with a 210, and with other games of183, and 185, was 113 pins over his series average. Mark Leverenz was 61 pins over his average with a 234, and Bill Reik threw a 240, 61 pins over.
Remember Gerald Arnett from the Tuesday nite Go-Getters, well, in the Senior League he rolled 75 pins over his average for a 232 game. My good friend Jack Taylor who is 80 years young, bowled a 223 game which was 68 pins over his average. Jack, have you considered going on the PBA senior circuit?  In the “split” department, the following splits were picked up: Judy Arnett, 5-6;  Linda Engle and Fred Fultz, 3-10;  Bill McDaniel, 2-7; Dot McDaniel, 5-7 and Dale Lierman picked up an unusual one: 3-6-7-8-10. In the Friday Night Mixed League,  the following bowled 50 or more pins over their average:  Nicole Bown with a 278, and Ed stone with a 246. Danny Lazzell had a 234, and also converted the  6-7-10.
Finally, scores reported in the Monday Night Church No-Tap league, Mark Roberts rolled a 719 series with Terry Jones a tad bit behind him with a 687. Stephanie Scruggs totaled up with a 643. The following bowlers were 50 or more pins above their average. Terry Jones 64,Mark Roberts 60, Kenny Smith 56, Miles Clark 78, Stephanie Scruggs 71, Brooke Roberts 66.
Now introducing, the Hall of Shame, with the first inductee being……me. This past Thursday, I bowled the worst I have in quite awhile.  At this time, only a 157 average bowler, I rolled a 147, a 113, and a 111, for a whopping series of 371. Hitting the pocket was not doing any good, as splits would mysteriously appear. Oh, I admit, there were some shots that I hit the head pin a bit high, but could not convert a spare for the life of me.  However, something changed on Saturday afternoon that really encouraged me. I make it a habit to watch TV coverage of the PBA bowlers, and this week was the tournament of Champions, with emphasis on the word Champions. In one of the semi final matches one of the “champion” bowlers was having a hard time.  We as Amateurs might consider a hard time being getting a game “under” 200, however this was not the case. This bowler had like 7 splits, and in the 10th, left the dreaded Big 4. His final tally……….100.  It just goes to show us, that even the professionals can have a bad day, and there is hope. As a wise person once told me, we can’t do a thing about the frames we have already bowled; we can only try to improve on the frames ahead.
