Aug 30, 2011

Things are starting to shape up fast now as leagues are starting to have more of their kick off meetings. Received notice on Sunday that the Monday nite No-Tap League will have their meeting on Tuesday, September 6th at 6:30 at Lincoln Lanes in the front. This league normally bowls in the annex.
Once again, if you have not bowled in a while or have never bowled on a league, there are league’s looking for your participation.  For example, the Wednesday morning dNa Karaoke league is looking for bowlers, as is the Happy Go Go Lucky Saturday nite mixed league. For the Happy Go Lucky League contact Ruth at 217-918-0745. For the dNa Karaoke League, contact Marjorie at 217-442-2521. I saw that the Winter League, which bowls on Tuesday afternoons is also looking for some ladies to bowl. You can contact Judy Moreman at 217-446-3156 fo4r more info. Unfortunately, the Tuesday nite 332 league dissolved this past Tuesday nite as there were not enough teams to participate.
Are there any men’s leagues or even mixed leagues in the area that bowl in the mornings?  I have had 1 bowler ask about this, as he now works 2nd shift.  If you know of one, please drop me a note at the e-mail near the end of this column.
The Senior League had some good scores to report for their 2nd week of bowling. Last week they established their starting averages, and this time around, some bowled way over them. We don’t want to forget about Terry Koebrich, as the very 1st week he bowled 71 pins over his average from last year. In their last bowling session, Sandy West was 64 pins over game avg.; Judy Gebhart, 65 pins over game avg.; Ernie Harvey, 54 pins over game avg.; Joe Stokes, 81 pins over game avg.; Keith Carter, 73 pins over game avg. and 155 pins over series total; Joe Blagg, 53 pins over game avg.; Margo Johnson, 58 pins over game avg.; Judy Arnett, 89 pins over game avg and 140 pins over series total. The league did have a few split conversions, such as Bob Maxwell picking up the 5-10 split. Greg Miller converted the 6-9-10, Martha Elliott and Ernie Harvey both picked up the 4-5-7, and Judy Gebhart corralled the 5-7.
Foul rule reminder: If your foot crosses the foul line, or you touch something on the other side of the foul line, you receive no pin count for that ball….UNLESS, you hold on to the ball. If the ball has not left your hand, it is not a complete delivery, thus, not a foul. Question for you. You are bowling on lane 20, at Lincoln Lanes and after you deliver the ball down the lane, your hand touches the wall. Is that a foul?  Because it is located behind the foul line, no, it is not considered a foul.
Looking for a place to keep your scores online? Bowlersalley.org is the place for you. You can add and edit your scores, and even keep archived leagues from previous years on there as well, and you can share your scores with others.  I have used this place for about 4 years or so, and am very happy with it.
Please submit all reports before midnight on Sundays. If you need any more info, drop me a note at illianabowling@gmail.com.
Until next week, let’s have fun and knock ‘em down.
