The Battle of the Stars, League reports, and how to score if a member of your team has to leave during the game because of sickness or injury;  all of this, coming your way.
The Battle of the Stars, an invitational tournament, recently concluded. The tourney, sponsored by Envisionwise.com, invited the top average bowlers from Danville, Covington, Hoopeston, Cissna Park and Rantoul. 5 games were bowled at Bulans, and 5 more at Lincoln Lanes. The top 5 qualifiers competed in a step ladder roll-off with the following results:  In the men’s division, Chad Bruins was the leader, followed by Jason Woodworth, Charlie Varner, Scott Kopacz, and Jarvis Brown. In the women’s division, Nicole Brown was in 1st, with Jackie Varner, Stephanie Abernathy, Katrina Goodwin, and Robin Smart all placing. Congratulations bowlers.
Eric Zanders is our top bowler of the week. He was 11 pins shy of a perfect game. Yes, Zanders not only rolled a 289, but he also rolled a 737 series. He said he was pretty well zoned in, but encouragement from fellow bowler Ron Felts sure did not hamper his efforts.
It is time for our weekly league reports. Let’s start off with the Monday Night Mixed League at Bulan’s Bowl reports that Steve Brockwell bowled  a 236 which was 58 pins over his 178 average. In the Tuesday Morning Ladies League in Westville, Sandy Taylor converted the 2-4-8-10 split. Going back to Lincoln Lanes in downtown Danville, the Go-Getters Di Summers rolled a 158 game, 53 pins over her average, and Russ Puzey was 60 pins over his with a 186 game. Paula Tate and Lisa Moudy picked up the 3-10. Moudy, along with Gary Holycross converted the 5-7, while Paula Beatty snagged the 2-7. Dale Lierman picked up the 4-5. A few lanes over in the Men’s 332 league, Greg Miller picked up the 6-7, while Jacky Williams corralled the 4-5.
In the DNA Karaoke League, Dorothy Hessler bowled a 209 for 59 pins over her average and Ruth Campbell picked up the 7-5-10 split. In the Thursday afternoon Senior League, Linda Engle bowled 52 pins over game average, and 115 pins over series average, with a 502 and 181.  John Gebhart was 59 pins over his game ave. with a 224.  Carolyn Stevens was 67 pins over her game avg. with a 193 game.  Fred Fultz picked up the 5-10 split.  In the Sunday Night Mixed League at Bulans, Ricky Porter rolled 57 pins over his 165 average to total a 222. Roger Moore, a 168 average bowler, bowled 66 pins over his average, and Thomas Stevens topped his 104 average by 52 pins with a 156 game.
The Monday Night Church No Tap League is telling us that Mark Roberts rolled a 698 series and was 55 pins over his average, while Robbie Ketcherside bowled a 689 series, and he was 57 pins over. Brock Dieu was 62 over, Ed Barney, 58 over and Richard Morgan, 54. Julianne Haynes picked up the 3-7 split,
As promised, this week’s rule has to do with scoring.  You are bowling, and one of your team members becomes ill or injured and has to leave the game. How do you score it from the point he/she left until the end of the game?  It is very simple.
108a . With Cause
When a player is unable to complete a game because of disability, injury or emergency, and another eligible player is not available, the team shall count the actual score for the frames bowled plus one-tenth of the league’s absentee score for each frame missed.
Until next week, let’s have fun and knock ‘em down.
