Dec 21, 2010

They say, practice make perfect.  12 strikes in a row is perfect.  After 34 years of practice, Jim Miller rolled his first perfect game. That’s right, a 300 game.  A score that only a minority of bowlers actually roll each year.  Jim, the son of South Danville resident Bill Miller, did this last Thursday evening. He says he was locked in, and was actually more nervous on the 11th ball, than on the 12th. It was as if his mother was reaching down from Heaven, putting her hand on his shoulders, to calm his nerves.  Since Jim and I are cousins, wonder if it’s in the DNA. Maybe my brother and I still have a chance. Congratulations Jim!
Starting with the Senior League, John Gebhart rolled 68 pins over his average, while Stan Harvey bowled  54 over , with 107 pins over his series average.  In the Tuesday Nite Go-Getters, Bob Tiffin picked up the 5-10, while Steve Lamb hooked up the 3-6-7-10. Gerald Arnett bowled 50 pins over his average, tallying a 209, and Houston Key topped out at 215, 54 over.  Had some folks tell me that the 4-7-8 was not a split, and you know what? They were right. Martha Hargen actually picked up the 2-7-8 in the Tuesday Morning Ladies League in Westville.  Jesse Alvarez rolled a 723 series in the Thursday Nite League at Lincoln Lanes. Jesse rolled a  200, 267 and a 256.
Checking the Monday Night, Church No-Tap,  Albert Syass bowled a 298 game, and Sue Strong  rolled a  630 series. Several bowlers rolled 50 or more pins over their average.  They were Albert Syass 113, Essie Syass 64, Kris Suchaczewski 61, Brock Dieu 58, Corissa Miller 94 and June Kinney-79.  Also on Monday nites, but out a Bulans, Tyler Kirkpatrick rolled a 286, which was 80 pins over his average., and a 702 series. Meanwhile, Robin Smoot rolled a 237, and a 661 series. Lynsey Jackson shot 52 pins over her 175 average.
Just in from the Lincoln Lanes Facebook page, announcing the winners of the Doubles Tournament on Sunday.  1st Place - Jarvis Brown + Scott Reinken / 2nd Place - Cliff Dupree + Steve Skimehorn / 3rd Place - Reuben Villareal + Derrick Hufford / 4th Place - Bryan Lawson + Anthony Ashby / 5th Place - Chad Hoshauer + David Henderson.
Rule of the week :
    6b . Illegal Pin fall
When any of the following occur, the delivery counts but the resulting pin fall does not:
1. A ball leaves the lane before reaching the pins.
2. A ball rebounds from the rear cushion.
3. A pin rebounds after coming in contact with the body, arms or legs of a human pinsetter.
4. A pin is touched by mechanical pin setting equipment.
5. Any pin knocked down when dead wood is being removed.
6. Any pin knocked down by a human pinsetter.
7. The player commits a foul.
8. A delivery is made with dead wood on the lane or in the gutter and the ball contacts such dead wood before leaving the lane surface.
9. A delivery is made with dead wood on the lane or in the gutter, and a pin, after coming into contact  with the dead wood, knocks down one or more pins.
If an illegal pin fall occurs and the player is entitled to additional deliveries in the frame, the pin(s) illegally knocked down must be spotted where it (they) originally stood before delivery of the ball.
Until next week, let’s have fun and knock ‘em down.
