Can you believe it is actually winter? I for one am very glad we have been having the temperatures we have been experiencing. However, we are presuming the weather is about to take a turn for the worst. One way to keep warm during the cold winter months is to join a league. Believe it or not, there might be some openings on some of the leagues, can’t promise, but it never hurts to ask. No leagues open to new bowlers, well, most centers have open bowling where you can go and better your game.
Looks as if the Monday Nite Church No Tappers were on the mark again, with Robbie Ketcherside leading the way. Robbie Ketcherside rolled  78 pins over his 208 average to achieve a 286 game, and a 788 series. Jimmy Scruggs bowled a 683 series, which included a 266 game.     The Tuesday Nite Go-Getter’s Dot McDaniel rolled a 435, 126 pins over her series average. Jodie Wade was 66 pins over her 122 average with a 188, and Joe Blagg topped out 50 pins over his average with a 218. Bub Tiffin knocked out the 3-10, Mac McDaniel and Ella Miller blew aprt the 4-5-7. Tony Dompe lassoed the 3-6-7, while Fred Fultz, picked up the 5-10.
Allen Taylor has been on a hot streak lately and this past Thursday afternoon was no exception in the Senior League. He rolled 75 pins over his average for a game of 224, and a 550 series, which was 103 pins over his series average. Gerald Arnett rolled 52 pins over average for a 199 game. Dorothy Hesler converted the 4-7-9 split, and Taylor picked up the 4-7-10.
Quite a few scores from the early Friday nite League at Sycamore Lanes in Covington. Among them are Cliff Albea with scores of 212, 231, and 277 for a 720 series. The 277 was 79 pins over his 198 average. Bowling column for Nov 15, 2012

We have yet another tournament coming up this weekend.  A Couple’s No-Tap tourney is being held at Bulans Bowl on Saturday Nite at 7:30. The cost is $30 a couple. Just a reminder, at Fast Lanes, on Nov 21, there will be a 7-8-9 No Tap tourney, and you will be able to throw out one game. It is Singles, and there will be both men and ladies divisions. There will be a live band starting at 8:30.
Hey, got a question to ask you. Are you a bowler who likes to clean your bowling ball down at the center during competition?  Did you know the cleaner’s odor is not only offensive to some, but harmful as well. Maybe we can be courteous to our fellow bowlers, and clean the ball away from the bowling area. That way, we can help someone breathe a bit easier.
All right, I know you want this week’s results, so let’s get to them.  The Monday Nite Church No-Tappers had this report: Jimmy Scruggs not only had a 739 series, bt a 300 game as well. Terry Jone rolled a 279 game, on his way to a 699 series.  Other bowlers with games 50 or more pins over their averages included Scott Cunningham 244-187-57; Albert Syass 233-157-76; U Pete Williams 240-169-71; Karen Hoskins 231-179-52; Karen Lane 176-112-64 and Lynnse Gondzur 186-135-51.
The Monday Nite League at Bulans had the following  split conversions this week:  Sandi Burke demonstrated the easy way of picking up the 4-10, Cindy Davenport, the 6-7-10, and Kevin Bennett smashed the 3-7-10.
Can you believe I actually forgot the Tuesday Nite Go-Getters last week. Yep, so we have a double report this week. On Oct 30th, Greg Miller rolled a 244, 78 pins over his 166 average. Joe Blagg shot a 218, 53 pins over his, and 141 average bowler Maggie Birge shot 50 pins over to garner a 191. Looking at split conversions, looks as if the 5-10 was rather easy for the Always Late team, as Bub, Charlie, and Dot Tiffin, Maggie Birge and Houston Key all converted it, as well as Sherry Castongue. Jon Castle had picked up the 3-10, 5-7,  as well as the 2-7-8. Birge also picked up the 4-9. Also picking up the 3-10 were Sue Strong, and Dot McDaniel, not once, but twice. Harl Miller lassoed the 5-8-10, while Greg Miller demonstrated how we should pick up the 5-6.
In the TLC League at Bulans on Tuesday evenings, Jerry Sims shot a 278, with a 712 series, while Kristen Duke rolled 56 pins over her 154 average for a 210 game.
Looked as if some of the Senior bowlers were warming up for last weekend’s tourney. Jim Thomas was 53 pins over average with a 213, John Ramsey threw a 236, 53 pins over, Phil Stultz, 57 pins over for a  199, Houston Key tapped out a 225, 67 pins over, while a newcomer this year to the league, Michelle Williams threw 67 pins over her game average for a 177 game. Speaking of the Senior Tourney, we should have the results soon, and we will let you know if any of our local group placed. Judy Gebhart did knock out the 4-5-7.
Covington’s Early Friday evening league had some great results from 4 bowlers. Art Wagoner shot a 257, 60 pins over his 197 average, which helped to achieve a 646 series. Paul Priebe rolled 50 pins over his 137 average for a 187. Mike Dunavan, a 183 average bowler, rolled 52 pins over to garner a 235, and a 672 series, while Beth Barnes shot 51 pins over her 139 average for a 190 game.
The Friday nite Mixed League once again had some great scores.  Jerrad Reed rolled an exciting 290 game, 11 strikes in a row, and also rolled a 255, for a 756 series. Rich McFarland had a 259 game, and Terrence Cloyd had a 256 game included in his 686 series. Scott Reinken had a 725 series including a 254 game, while Danny Lazzell rolled a 260 game. Nicole Brown and Brandi Welsch both had a 236 game. Brown had a 641 series. DBA To Hold Off On Dues Increase Oct 11, 2012

We have an update on the Danville Bowling Association dues increase. After talking with Association President Darren Van Duyn, we have found out that the dues increase vote has been put on hold until another association meeting is held near the end of the bowling season. Keep your eyes and ears open for the date of that meeting, where once again, you will be given an opportunity to have your voice heard.
There will be a Association meeting for board members only at 4:30, tonite, at Lincoln Lanes.
Want to enter some local tournaments? Check out the local bowling centers. I believe there are double tourneys every other week at Lincoln, King of the Hill tourneys at some of the centers as well. Maybe one of the centers can put on a no tap tourney. Might be some fun.
The Monday Nite No-Tappers are still knocking out the high scores.  Sharon Craft rolled a 262, 62 pins over her 200 average, which helped out her 640 series. Joe Davis had a 707 series including a 255 game, which happens to be 64 pins over his 164 average. Scott Cunningham rolled 79 pins over his 175 norm for  a 254. 146 average bowler John Nixon was able to top his average by 79 pins for a 208 game. Albert Syass rolled 61 pins above his current average of 159, to garner a 220. While Louise Cunningham was rolling 74 pins over her 104 average to bowl a 178 game, James Fair was topping his 104 average by 74 pins to get a 160 game.
Had not realized the Tuesday Morning Ladies league had change to Monday mornings, so guess we should start calling them the Monday Morning Ladies league. One of their young ladies picked up the 5-10 split.
The Tuesday Nite Go Getters are picking up some steam as the season progresses.  Lacee Bays rolled a 175, 66 pins over her current average of 109. This allowed her to obtain a 430 series which is 103 pins over her current series average. 150 average bowler Jon Castle rolled 55 pins over his average for a 205, while Houston Keys was 56 over his 155 normal to garner a total of 211.  Irv Summers picked up the 5-7-9 split.
Senior League bowler Greg Miller was hot again this week, when he rolled a 242. However, Linda Engle topped out for a 495 series, 114 pins over her series average. Marla Troyer rolled a 197, 60 pins over her game average. Fred Fultz was 57 pins over his game average. Joe Blagg had the high series for the week with a 629, including games of 234, 215, and a 180. Charlie Graul picked up the 4-7-9 split.
Need to practice up for league or even casual play? Check your local bowling centers to see when they offer open bowling.

Senior Tourney to be held in Champaign this Year.

The Illinois state Senior Tournament is being held right in our backyard this year. Dates are Oct 27th and 28th, Nov 3, and 4th, and Nov 10th and 11th and will be held at Western Bowl in Champaign. You must be 50 years of age or older to be eligible to participate. Just found out the reservation date closed on September 25th, but they may take walk ins. There will be several Danville seniors bowling on the 10th and 11th of November.
No official word yet on what the final outcome is of the recent local associations vote. They are looking into whether the vote to raise the local dues from $7 to $10 required either a majority or a 2/3 vote of the members present.
Have you ever tried the sport of bowling? If not, league participation is a great way to do it. It is easy to join and a lot of fun. No EXPERIENCE is required. Can you pick up a bowling ball? If so, you are eligible.
There are leagues for all ages.  They range from age 4 and up. I know for a fact there are folks over the age of 80 bowling, so don’t tell me you are too old. We do not want to hear that you are not good enough. Believe me when I tell you that even experienced or top rollers have their bad days. Take me for example. I am NOT a high roller by any means, but a couple of weeks ago, I rolled a 98 in the senior league and came right back in the Tuesday nite Go Getters in the next week with a 91. The Hall of Shame had my name on it. You learn with practice and advice from other bowlers. I have found that most bowlers are always willing to help out when asked. Drop by one of your local bowling centers and inquire on how you can join.
The Monday Nite No-Tappers are still tapping. 138 average bowler John Nixon had top honors for the nite rolling 85 pins over average for a 223. Jimmy Scruggs was not far behind, bowling 69 pins over his 172 average for a 241. Rolling 68 pins over an average of 115, was Lynnse Gondzur with a 183. Pam Jones topped out with a 222, 63 pins over her 159 norm, and Mike Jett hit above 200, with 58 pins over his average for a 208. Finas Glenn picked up the 5-7 split.
The Tuesday Morning Ladies League should start giving lessons on converting splits. They are a small league, but they don’t do too badly. Laura Baird picked up the2-7-8, while Barb Smith knocked out the 4-10.
Senior League bowler Greg Miller was the top bowler of the week of those reporting, obtaining a 634 series with games of 210, 211, and a 213. John Ramsey had a 599 with games of 201 and 200. Jim Thomas rolled a 202.  In the split department, the Wiliams family converted a couple of good ones. Michelle clipped the 4-7-9, while Aaron showed how to pick up the 5-7. Jim Thomas knocked the elusive 2-4-9-10, and Charlie Graul lassoed the5-10.

DBA raises local dues, Hufford has great night.

As talked about last week, a meeting of the Danville Bowling Association was held last Wednesday night, and the main topic was the raising of local association dues. There were a couple of proposals put on the floor, both were voted upon, and the final vote was the raising of the local dues to $10, instead of the present $7. Questions were raised whether the 14-12 vote should have been two thirds instead of a majority vote. This will be looked into with the USBC. On other Association news, Darren Van Duyn was elected as the new association President, replacing Don Cheeseman, who did not seek reelection. Van Duyn’s term is 3 years.
Derrick Hufford had a great night this past week, not letting a smashed finger, and a borrowed bowling ball deter him from rolling a 804 series, including a 290, an 267, and a final game of 247. That was the 2nd 290 game for him in the past 2 weeks.
In Monday nite action, Bulan’s reports that their Mixed league had a few people who rolled 50 or more pins over their averages. They are Sandi Burke, rolling 63 pins over her 161 average for a 224, Brent Honn, 74 pins over his 140 average for a 214, and Kevin Tyler, a 165 average bowler, slamming out a 215, 50 pins over.
Going to Mid-town Danville, the Church No-Tappers were active at Lincoln Lanes. Sue Strong was leading the group with a 252 game in a 658 series. Strong also picked up the 6-7 split. Several bowlers rolled 50 or more pins over their averages. They were Strong, with the 252, 67 pins over. Steve Newell, a 183 average bowler, bowled 60 pins over, to garner a 243. Larry Craft, 59 pins over a 196 average, for a final tally of 259. Leean Palmer was 60 pins over an average of 142, for a final score of 202. Miles Clark, was also 60 pins over his 148 average for a 208. Brad Wheeler threw 52 pins over 154, for a total of 206. Essie Syass threw a 195, 71 pins over her average of 124. 120 average bowler Krystle Evans topped her average by 68 pins to get a 188, and Ella Ellis was 62 pins over 113, for her game of 175. The No Tappers are looking for a couple more teams. Drop by on a Monday night to check it out.
In Tuesday nite action at Lincoln Lanes, The Go Getters had quite a number of bowlers going 50 or more pins over.  Joe Blagg had top honors for the nite, with a 544 series, 135 pins over his series average, which included a game of 216, 73 pins over average. Not too far behind him was Kyle McMasters, who rolled 130 pins over his series average, and rolled two 200 games, which were both 62 pins over. Tracy Smith was 58 pins over for a 215. Jon Castle shook things up a bit while bowling a 223, 73 pins over. Charlie Tiffin was 55 over for a 190, while Paula Beatty was 71 over with a 203.
The Thursday afternoon Senior League had some good scores reported as well. Bob Maxwell shot a 209 with a 526 series and Sue Strong rolled a 554 with a190 game. John Gebhart had a 202 game with a 567 series, while Joe Blagg topped out with a207 game and a 536 series.
As you can see, had a couple of more leagues join us this week, and maybe a couple more will be joining us here in the near future including some high scoring ones. Because of this, I am going to report more on the actual scores, and not so much the split conversions. Don’t get me wrong, some of them are really great, and if I see some big split conversions being reported, I will give them credit where credit is due. Of course, I also want to give you info on upcoming tournaments as well as their results, but I only know of them when given the information.
Please submit all reports before midnight on Mondays. If you need any more info, drop me a note at illianabowling@gmail.com.

Bowling column for Sept 20, 2012

The 2012/2013 bowling season is back in full swing, and we have many of the same teams reporting this year as we did last year, but are hoping for even more. Covington and Bulan’s, are you listening?  For info on what I am seeking from each team, please send me an e-mail at the address at the end of the column. The bowlers in your league, want, and deserve the recognition.
You do not have to be the secretary, just submit the reports. Basically what we are looking for is as follows:  Men, bowling scores over 250, series totals over 675. Women bowlers who roll games over 225, or series over 625.  Any bowler who rolls more than 50 pins over their averages, we want to know about. Also, any odd splits. “Baby splits” do not count. We do reserve the right to change the limits to fit into column space.
The meeting of the Danville Bowling Association was held last night, but due to deadline requirements, we will have the results of that meeting in next week’s column.
The Senior League from Lincoln Lanes are showing the younger generation once again how it’s done. Terry Bell Jr. rolled a 645 series with games of 201, 213, & 231. Other high games of the afternoon were Joe Blagg, 219; Houston Key, 224; Stan Harvey, 220; Jim Thomas, 211; and Ed Reed, a 207 game. Dorothy Hesler, rolled a 469 series, Shirley Lamm knocked out a 183 game, while Jan Frank had a 181 game.  Marla Troyer and Donna Berlin both had a 178 game. Many of these games were 50 or more pins over their averages.
The Tuesday nite Go Getters are reporting that Tracy Smith was 67 pins over average for a 213 game. Martha Elliott was 100 pins over her series average, Lisa Moudy topped out at 136 pins over her series average, and  Houston Keys was 68 pins over his game average, just squeaking by Smith. Monday nite Mixed League at Bulans is reporting that Greg Miller rolled a 203, 53 pins over his 150 average. Only 2 split conversions were reported, both by the same bowler, Fred Fultz. He picked up both the 4-5, and the 5-6-10. Laura Baird converted the 2-7-8 in the Tuesday Morning Ladies league at the Westville Legion.
In the Monday Nite Church No-Tap League, we have word that two bowlers were both 50 or more pins over their average. Miles Clark was 53 pins over his 148 average for a 201, while Steve Newell was 51 over his average of 183, for a 234 game.
Since writing this column, I have enjoyed going through the USBC rule book and finding out rules that I did not even know existed. Perhaps, you didn’t either.  Did you know that “sandbagging”, as many bowlers call it is frowned upon by the USBC. In fact, so frowned upon, it could be grounds for disciplinary action. Read very closely rule 17.
17a. Unfair Tactics
An individual can be charged with attempting to gain an unfair advantage in league or tournament play for the following reasons:
1. Directly or indirectly tampering with lanes, pins or bowling balls so they no longer meet USBC specifications.
2. Misrepresenting an average to gain a greater handicap, or qualify for a lower classification in an event.
3. Establishing an average below the player’s ability to gain an unfair advantage in handicap or classified competition.
Penalty: Loss of games, prize winnings, league removal (see Rule 115a or Rule 115c), and subject to suspension from or denial of USBC membership.
Please submit all reports before midnight on Sundays. If you need any more info, drop me a note at illianabowling@gmail.com.

Special Meeting to be held and Winchester rolls 300 game

Welcome back.  Hope everyone had a great summer, and are eager and ready for the 2012/2013 bowling season.
Before we start our weekly bowling reports from the various leagues, we have an important meeting to announce, coming up on Wednesday, Sept, 19th at 6pm. The Danville Bowling Association will be having a meeting at Spanky’s, just east of the railroad tracks on E. Main St. The main purpose of this meeting is to allow the members of the association to voice their opinion and vote on whether or not they will raise the local association dues from $7 to $10 a year. Each year, if you are a member of the USBC, you have to either buy or renew your membership to bowl in any sanctioned league.  For the past several years, the total dues have been $17, $10 going to the national organization, and $7 to the local association. You, as a member, are encouraged to attend this meeting and voice your opinion, and cast your vote on whether your local dues should be raised by $1, $2, $3, or at all. We hope to see many of you there. Just a reminder, the Danville Bowling Association is for the men of the area. The women are covered by the WBC.
We are once again encouraging teams from the Illiana area bowling centers to submit bowling reports. Does not have to be the team secretary, it can be a designated representative.
Very 1st report would have to be the 1st report we have had of a 300 game this year. Congrats go out to David T. Winchester.
The Senior League from Lincoln Lanes are usually one of the first groups to start up for the year, and one of the last to finish, by bowling 35 weeks out of the year. Recent results include Terry Bell rolling a 627 series with scores of 201, 180, and 246, Aug 23. The same day, John Ramsey started with a 212 game. On Aug 30th, Ed Reed rolled a 247, a 278, and a 204, for a 729 series. Stan Harvey rolled a high game of 236, while Bell racked up a 243. Bell was not finished yet, as on Sept 6th, he rolled a 659 with games of 258 and 225. Recent split conversions for Senior League bowlers were, Harley Huckleby, and Charlie Graul with the 5-10. Sue Strong knocked over the 4-5, while Billy McDaniel slapped out the 3-10.
The Tuesday nite Go Getters had their 1st session of the new year, and Charlie Tiffin was 58 pins over his last years average. The League did have quite a few split pickups. Among them were Dick Lamb, Dot McDaniel, and Tracy Smith who all picked up the 3-10. Lamb also picked up the 3-5-10. Kevin Powell and Irv Summers converted the 5-7. Chris Brookins was able to knock out the 5-10, while Rose Newell fought off the 2-7. Husband Steve, lassoed the 6-7. Converting the 6-7-10 was Gary Holycross.

April 18, 2012

Where did the season go? It seems just like yesterday when the bowling season started, and here we are winding down. Time sure does fly when you are having fun.  The winter leagues start towards the end of August, and ends in the middle of April. I would like to thank all of you who took the time to submit a report for your league this past season, and look forward to working with you and even others who might want to help out and let us know what your league is doing. We will not be writing another column until the end of August, but you can keep up with us, by checking our blog located at http://tucksbowlingforfun.blogspot.com. At the blog site, you will be able to find past columns for the past 2 years. If you are in a summer league, feel free to submit a bowling report at illianabowling@gmail.com.  Please ask for what type of info I am looking for. This past week, I had the pleasure of bowling with some of the youth group from Danville’s First Assembly, one young lady in particular really seemed to enjoy the sport. Stormi might consider joining a youth league as her enthusiasm was very contagious.
The last couple of weeks we have been describing the duties of league officers. This week we will conclude with the Treasurer.
The Treasurer is responsible for:
·       Working with the president to open an account in the league name at an insured and recognized bank, credit union or in-house banking service, with at least two league officers’ signatures required for all withdrawals.  Account statements are mailed to the President for verification purposes.
·       Depositing funds in the league account within seven (7) days of receipt.
·       Working with the league president to verify the league’s account balance at least once per month.
·       Collecting league fees each session and paying the bowling center.
·       Issuing a check or money order made payable to the local association to cover membership dues.
·       Advising the league president and secretary if any league members are delinquent in paying league fees.
·       Providing each team with a detailed financial statement when the prize fund is distributed; including receipts, disbursements and transactions, and prize recipients’ names and earnings.
·       Distributing the prize fund within 21 days after the league schedule ends, unless the board or USBC decides otherwise.
·       Giving financial reports on request by the league president or board.
·       Turning over all league books, papers and monies to the next league treasurer. All financial records —regardless if in the possession of the former or current treasurer — must be retained for one (1) year after the league schedule ends.
We have 3 leagues reporting for our season’s finale. The Tuesday Morning Ladie’s League from the Westville Legion reports that recently Jo Ann Brooks picked up the 3-10 split, while Martha Hance converted the 2-9-10.
In Senior League bowling, Clara Copsy was 58 pins over her game average with a 182. Ernie Harvey was 58 pins over his game average, with a 239 game, while Ed Reed bowled 55 pins over his game average, with a 245 game. Mr. Excitement, Charlie Graul was 57 pins over his game average with a 190 game.  Covering the splits were Shirley Reynolds, Jim Thomas and Joe Davis, all of who picked up the 3-10 while Donna Berlin slapped down the 5-10.
The Monday nite No-Tap league has 2 reports to give you. The 1st will be from Monday, April 9, and then from Monday April 16th.
On April 9th:  3 men had series scores of 675 or higher. J.R. Scruggs, with a 695, Jeff Lane, with a 690, and Robbie Ketcherside, with a 681. Lane had a high game of 262, which is 81 pins over his 181 average. 194 average bowler Finas Glenn, topped out 53 pins over with a 247.  Krystle “Tutu” Evans rolled 61 pins over her 146 average for a 207, while Leean Palmer reached 202, 65 pins over her 137 average. We cannot forget that Louise Cunningham went above her 130 average by 63 pins to obtain a 193 game. Juanita Wrightsman and Glenn both converted the 5-7. In April 16th action, Jeremy Randolph once again make the column with a 724 series. Quite a few bowlers topped 50 or more pins over their averages, including Brad Wheeler who bowled 51 pins over for a 209. Jeff Lane topped his 183 average by 72 pins for a final score of 255. 198 average bowler Terry Jones reached 277, while knocking out 79 pins over his average.  Joe Davis, another tutu lover, topped out at 278, 61 pins over his 217 average. There is something about tutus in this league. Richard Davis had a 242, 78 pins over his 164 average. Larry Craft rolled a 218, 57 pins over his 161 average, and ending up with Nancy Goodner with a 228, which was 69 pins over her 157 average. Pam Jones picked up the 5-10 split.
Just a reminder that the Danville area Senior tournament will be held on April 28th and 29th. On the 28th, there will be 2 squad times, 10 am and 1pm, at Bulan Lanes. The final day on the 29th will be at 1pm at Lincoln Lanes. The top 5 bowlers will have a step ladder roll off to determine the winner. Entry forms are available at both centers. I will be there, will you?
This is the last column for this season. It has been a lot of fun, and we hope you have enjoyed reading it each week. Look for us again towards the end of August. In the mean time, you might see me at the bowling center or even walking down Vermilion St.
   Have a great summer.

April 10, 2012

Last week we were talking about election of officers. Each league usually elects new officers at season’s end, and many are begging for people to run for office. This week, I will cover the President, Vice President and the League Treasurer.
The president is the league’s chief executive.
The President/League Supervisor is responsible for:
·       Arranging an account to be opened in the league name at a federally insured and recognized bank, credit union or in-house banking service. The account must have at least two league officers’ signatures for all fund withdrawals. Account statements are sent to the president for verification purposes.
·       Scheduling league meetings at convenient times and locations.
·       Appointing committees.
·       Enforcing all league rules and USBC playing rules.
·       Verifying league accounts monthly. See the Monthly President Verification Worksheet in the Managing
League Funds section of this handbook.
·       May vote on all issues before the board.
In youth leagues that have a board, the president should assist the league supervisor with the duties of the president.
League Vice President
The vice president assumes the duties of the president in the president’s absence, and assists the president as requested.
In the Tuesday Nite Go-Getters, the year end roll off was held between the 1st half leader, Always Late, and the 2nd Half leader Wolf Creek. In a best of 3 match, with both games very close in score, Wolf Creek were the victors. Team members are, for Always Late, Margaret Birge, Bub Tiffin, Dot Tiffin, Charlie Tiffin, and Houston Keys. For Wolf Creek, team meam members include Martha Elliott, Laura Baird, Joe Elliott, and Greg Miller. Congrats to both teams! In the Senior League, Greg Miller seems to be our bowler of the week, where he rolled 84 pins over his average for a 256. Bill Reynolds was 51 pins over his game average, Linda Engle was 60 pins over her game average with a 191, and Jack Ball was 59 pins over his game average with a 204.  Ed Reed had a 202-236-226 for a 664 series.  Joe Davis was 63 over his game average with a 233, and 104 pins over his series total.  Jim Thomas converted the 5-6-10, Judy Arnett was able to split apart the 9-10, and Judy Gebhart knocked out the 3-10.
The Monday nite No-Tap league is reporting Jimmy Scruggs rolled 72 pins over average for a 278, which combined with his other game scores tallied a 700 even score. Shirley Perryman rolls a 250 game, 77 pins over her average.  Yvonne Scruggs had a great series of 647, which included a 240 game. Other bowlers rolling 50 or more pins over average were Brock Dieu, 84 over with a 266, Terry Jones, 60 over with a258, Nancy Goodner, a 211, 53 pins over, Essie Syass, 66 pins over average for a 197, and Lynnse Gondzur, 62 pins over average for a 196.
Looks as if next week will be the last column of this bowling season. I will give you more info then.
Until next week, let’s have fun and knock ‘em down. See you at the lanes.

April 3, 2012

As we stated last week, the bowling season for 2011/2012 is dwindling down. One sure sign of that is the annual Senior Tourney, which this year will be held April 28th and 29th, with the 1st day being at Bulan’s, and the 2nd being at Lincoln.  More info is available at each center. If you need a flyer, e-mail me at illianabowling@gmail.com and I can send you one back. I missed bowling in it last year, but will be rolling in it this year, will you?
Also, at the end of each year, each league usually elects new officers, and many are begging for people to run for office. I would encourage you to see if that is the case in your league and put your hat in the ring. Hey, even if you don’t win, you are a winner, as you volunteered to be a part of the group.  For your info, I will be listing each office that most leagues have in the next couple of weeks, and what their duties entail. Many of us do not realize how much our leaders really do.  This week, I will cover, possibly one of the most important, and busiest of all offices, the League Secretary.
The Secretary/League Official is responsible for:
·       Keeping minutes of all league meetings. Minutes should include the meeting date, time and location, names of those attending, and details of the decisions made.
·       Distributing a copy of the league rules, and approved prize list to each team captain and officer and posting of the league schedule or providing a copy for each captain.
·       Passing out individual USBC membership application cards to each league member as they join and collecting completed cards and membership dues.  Forwarding the completed membership application cards, membership dues and USBC league application to the respective USBC association secretary within 30 days of the start of the league. Membership card applications and applicable fees for additional members shall also be forwarded to the local association manager(s) within 30 days of receipt.
·       Posting or providing a current standing sheet, which includes a list of league bowlers and substitutes.
·       Reporting and submitting applications for awards as required by USBC rules.
·       Notifying league members of league and association meetings; and notifying the association of any changes in officers, schedules or bowling centers.
·       Turning in season-ending averages to the appropriate USBC local bowling association.
·       Providing the final league standings to the league treasurer.
·       Maintaining, writing and filing all league correspondence.
·       Furnishing the next league secretary with all records and materials.
NOTE: In leagues using computer and/or average service, the elected secretary remains responsible for all the duties specified in USBC Rule 102e.
An additional duty that we request that the secretary do, is to submit a report each week to us, so the members of each league get the recognition they deserve.
Next week, will be the Treasurer, even tho some leagues combine both this and the secretary.
In the Tuesday Nite Go-Getters, Fred Fultz not only rolled 51 pins over average for a 156, but he also bowled 101 pins over his series average. Tony Dompe picked up both the 2-7, and 9-10 splits, while Lacee Bays got rid of the 3-10. The regular season for the Go Getters has now concluded, except for the 1st place roll off this coming Tuesday nite. The leaders for the 1st half, Always Late will roll against the 2nd half leaders, Wolf Creek Golf for the season champions. Good luck to both teams.  Judy Marriage knocked out the 5-10 split in the Tuesday morning ladies league in Westville.  In the DNA Karaoke League, Ruth Campbell and Marilyn Ruffner picked up the 3-10 split, June Bechtold picked up the 9-10 split and Ann Minnette picked up the 5-10 split.  In the Senior League, Bob Coburn bowled 54 pins over his game average with a 178 while Bill McDaniel was 70 pins over his average with a 215. Both Raymond Berlin and Judy Arnett converted the 5=6-10, Clarence Martin knocked out the 2-7, and Gerald Arnett made the 5-7 split disappear.
The Monday nite No-Tap league is reporting that Jeremy Randolph  once again had the high game for the nite, but just barely. Randolph had a 279 and a 779 series. J, and Jimmy Scruggs was only 4 pins behind with a 275, 70 pins over average and 677 series. J.R. Scruggs topped out with a 694 series, and Robbie Ketcherside finished up with a 690 series. The following bowlers rolled 50 or more pins over their averages: Terry Jones, 53 pins over for a 251, Finas Glenn, 52 over for a final of 244, Richard Morgan also was 53 over, for a 226 game, while Nancy Goodner was 87 pins above her average for a 243. Pam Jones converted the 2-7-10 split.
Until next week, let’s have fun and knock ‘em down. See you at the lanes.
