DBA raises local dues, Hufford has great night.

As talked about last week, a meeting of the Danville Bowling Association was held last Wednesday night, and the main topic was the raising of local association dues. There were a couple of proposals put on the floor, both were voted upon, and the final vote was the raising of the local dues to $10, instead of the present $7. Questions were raised whether the 14-12 vote should have been two thirds instead of a majority vote. This will be looked into with the USBC. On other Association news, Darren Van Duyn was elected as the new association President, replacing Don Cheeseman, who did not seek reelection. Van Duyn’s term is 3 years.
Derrick Hufford had a great night this past week, not letting a smashed finger, and a borrowed bowling ball deter him from rolling a 804 series, including a 290, an 267, and a final game of 247. That was the 2nd 290 game for him in the past 2 weeks.
In Monday nite action, Bulan’s reports that their Mixed league had a few people who rolled 50 or more pins over their averages. They are Sandi Burke, rolling 63 pins over her 161 average for a 224, Brent Honn, 74 pins over his 140 average for a 214, and Kevin Tyler, a 165 average bowler, slamming out a 215, 50 pins over.
Going to Mid-town Danville, the Church No-Tappers were active at Lincoln Lanes. Sue Strong was leading the group with a 252 game in a 658 series. Strong also picked up the 6-7 split. Several bowlers rolled 50 or more pins over their averages. They were Strong, with the 252, 67 pins over. Steve Newell, a 183 average bowler, bowled 60 pins over, to garner a 243. Larry Craft, 59 pins over a 196 average, for a final tally of 259. Leean Palmer was 60 pins over an average of 142, for a final score of 202. Miles Clark, was also 60 pins over his 148 average for a 208. Brad Wheeler threw 52 pins over 154, for a total of 206. Essie Syass threw a 195, 71 pins over her average of 124. 120 average bowler Krystle Evans topped her average by 68 pins to get a 188, and Ella Ellis was 62 pins over 113, for her game of 175. The No Tappers are looking for a couple more teams. Drop by on a Monday night to check it out.
In Tuesday nite action at Lincoln Lanes, The Go Getters had quite a number of bowlers going 50 or more pins over.  Joe Blagg had top honors for the nite, with a 544 series, 135 pins over his series average, which included a game of 216, 73 pins over average. Not too far behind him was Kyle McMasters, who rolled 130 pins over his series average, and rolled two 200 games, which were both 62 pins over. Tracy Smith was 58 pins over for a 215. Jon Castle shook things up a bit while bowling a 223, 73 pins over. Charlie Tiffin was 55 over for a 190, while Paula Beatty was 71 over with a 203.
The Thursday afternoon Senior League had some good scores reported as well. Bob Maxwell shot a 209 with a 526 series and Sue Strong rolled a 554 with a190 game. John Gebhart had a 202 game with a 567 series, while Joe Blagg topped out with a207 game and a 536 series.
As you can see, had a couple of more leagues join us this week, and maybe a couple more will be joining us here in the near future including some high scoring ones. Because of this, I am going to report more on the actual scores, and not so much the split conversions. Don’t get me wrong, some of them are really great, and if I see some big split conversions being reported, I will give them credit where credit is due. Of course, I also want to give you info on upcoming tournaments as well as their results, but I only know of them when given the information.
Please submit all reports before midnight on Mondays. If you need any more info, drop me a note at illianabowling@gmail.com.

Bowling column for Sept 20, 2012

The 2012/2013 bowling season is back in full swing, and we have many of the same teams reporting this year as we did last year, but are hoping for even more. Covington and Bulan’s, are you listening?  For info on what I am seeking from each team, please send me an e-mail at the address at the end of the column. The bowlers in your league, want, and deserve the recognition.
You do not have to be the secretary, just submit the reports. Basically what we are looking for is as follows:  Men, bowling scores over 250, series totals over 675. Women bowlers who roll games over 225, or series over 625.  Any bowler who rolls more than 50 pins over their averages, we want to know about. Also, any odd splits. “Baby splits” do not count. We do reserve the right to change the limits to fit into column space.
The meeting of the Danville Bowling Association was held last night, but due to deadline requirements, we will have the results of that meeting in next week’s column.
The Senior League from Lincoln Lanes are showing the younger generation once again how it’s done. Terry Bell Jr. rolled a 645 series with games of 201, 213, & 231. Other high games of the afternoon were Joe Blagg, 219; Houston Key, 224; Stan Harvey, 220; Jim Thomas, 211; and Ed Reed, a 207 game. Dorothy Hesler, rolled a 469 series, Shirley Lamm knocked out a 183 game, while Jan Frank had a 181 game.  Marla Troyer and Donna Berlin both had a 178 game. Many of these games were 50 or more pins over their averages.
The Tuesday nite Go Getters are reporting that Tracy Smith was 67 pins over average for a 213 game. Martha Elliott was 100 pins over her series average, Lisa Moudy topped out at 136 pins over her series average, and  Houston Keys was 68 pins over his game average, just squeaking by Smith. Monday nite Mixed League at Bulans is reporting that Greg Miller rolled a 203, 53 pins over his 150 average. Only 2 split conversions were reported, both by the same bowler, Fred Fultz. He picked up both the 4-5, and the 5-6-10. Laura Baird converted the 2-7-8 in the Tuesday Morning Ladies league at the Westville Legion.
In the Monday Nite Church No-Tap League, we have word that two bowlers were both 50 or more pins over their average. Miles Clark was 53 pins over his 148 average for a 201, while Steve Newell was 51 over his average of 183, for a 234 game.
Since writing this column, I have enjoyed going through the USBC rule book and finding out rules that I did not even know existed. Perhaps, you didn’t either.  Did you know that “sandbagging”, as many bowlers call it is frowned upon by the USBC. In fact, so frowned upon, it could be grounds for disciplinary action. Read very closely rule 17.
17a. Unfair Tactics
An individual can be charged with attempting to gain an unfair advantage in league or tournament play for the following reasons:
1. Directly or indirectly tampering with lanes, pins or bowling balls so they no longer meet USBC specifications.
2. Misrepresenting an average to gain a greater handicap, or qualify for a lower classification in an event.
3. Establishing an average below the player’s ability to gain an unfair advantage in handicap or classified competition.
Penalty: Loss of games, prize winnings, league removal (see Rule 115a or Rule 115c), and subject to suspension from or denial of USBC membership.
Please submit all reports before midnight on Sundays. If you need any more info, drop me a note at illianabowling@gmail.com.

Special Meeting to be held and Winchester rolls 300 game

Welcome back.  Hope everyone had a great summer, and are eager and ready for the 2012/2013 bowling season.
Before we start our weekly bowling reports from the various leagues, we have an important meeting to announce, coming up on Wednesday, Sept, 19th at 6pm. The Danville Bowling Association will be having a meeting at Spanky’s, just east of the railroad tracks on E. Main St. The main purpose of this meeting is to allow the members of the association to voice their opinion and vote on whether or not they will raise the local association dues from $7 to $10 a year. Each year, if you are a member of the USBC, you have to either buy or renew your membership to bowl in any sanctioned league.  For the past several years, the total dues have been $17, $10 going to the national organization, and $7 to the local association. You, as a member, are encouraged to attend this meeting and voice your opinion, and cast your vote on whether your local dues should be raised by $1, $2, $3, or at all. We hope to see many of you there. Just a reminder, the Danville Bowling Association is for the men of the area. The women are covered by the WBC.
We are once again encouraging teams from the Illiana area bowling centers to submit bowling reports. Does not have to be the team secretary, it can be a designated representative.
Very 1st report would have to be the 1st report we have had of a 300 game this year. Congrats go out to David T. Winchester.
The Senior League from Lincoln Lanes are usually one of the first groups to start up for the year, and one of the last to finish, by bowling 35 weeks out of the year. Recent results include Terry Bell rolling a 627 series with scores of 201, 180, and 246, Aug 23. The same day, John Ramsey started with a 212 game. On Aug 30th, Ed Reed rolled a 247, a 278, and a 204, for a 729 series. Stan Harvey rolled a high game of 236, while Bell racked up a 243. Bell was not finished yet, as on Sept 6th, he rolled a 659 with games of 258 and 225. Recent split conversions for Senior League bowlers were, Harley Huckleby, and Charlie Graul with the 5-10. Sue Strong knocked over the 4-5, while Billy McDaniel slapped out the 3-10.
The Tuesday nite Go Getters had their 1st session of the new year, and Charlie Tiffin was 58 pins over his last years average. The League did have quite a few split pickups. Among them were Dick Lamb, Dot McDaniel, and Tracy Smith who all picked up the 3-10. Lamb also picked up the 3-5-10. Kevin Powell and Irv Summers converted the 5-7. Chris Brookins was able to knock out the 5-10, while Rose Newell fought off the 2-7. Husband Steve, lassoed the 6-7. Converting the 6-7-10 was Gary Holycross.
Monday nite Mixed League at Bulans is reporting that Greg Miller rolled a 203, 53 pins over his 150 average. Laura Baird converted the 4-7-10 in the Tuesday Morning Ladies league at the Westville Legion.
Please submit all reports before midnight on Sundays. If you need any more info, drop me a note at illianabowling@gmail.com.
