The Battle of the Stars, a premier tournament, featuring some of the top bowlers in the Illiana area is getting ready to start up soon. Notice I said top bowlers, obviously, that will exclude me, however, I can guarantee you will see Rich McFarland, and David Winchester, and many others participating. Invitations have been sent out, and if you plan on joining this event, and have received an invitation, please return it as soon as possible. Squad times are Men Squad 1 at 10am, and Squad 2 at 2:30pm, at Bulans. On March 30^th at noon, a Women’s squad will be held at Bulans. Saturday March 16^th will be the final round for the men at 11am, and on Sunday, March 17^th the final women’s round will be at noon. Both of these final rounds will be at the Lincoln Lanes bowling center. One note to remember, this is NOT a handicap tourney. All scores are completely scratch.

    Last week, I told you of the new Hall of Fame inductees. Just a reminder that there are banquet tickets available for this year’s Hall of Fame Recognition, being held at Spanky’s Banquet Hall. Tickets are $17, and are available from any DABA or DWBA board member.

    We have some great scores to pass on, starting off with the Monday Nite No-Tap League, consisting of teams from area Churches. Sharon Craft had a 652 series, which included a 244, 51 pins over her 193 average. Other bowlers 50 or more pins over average were Ella Ellis, with a 242 (153), and Jim Switzer with a 176 (122).

    Going out west to Bulan’s, and the Monday Nite Mixed League, we have both Todd Goodner and Matthew Pate turning in some good scores, by both being 50 or more pins over their average. Goodner threw a 227 (166), while Pate topped out with a 248 (171).

    This past Tuesday morning the Lincoln Lane’s MS Nail Salon reported that Cheryl Callison rolled a 201, Judy Mentzer knocked out a 212, and Pam Jeffers picked up the 5-7 split.

     The Tuesday Nite Go Getters had the following had Joe Blagg with a 220 (170) and a 615 series, while Maggie Birge rolled a 211 (147).

   The Thursday afternoon Senior League had Stan Harvey picking up a 277, 91 games over his average, and Raymond Berlin shot 52 pins over average and 108 pins over his series total for a 192 game, and a 528 series. Sue Strong picked up the 5-10, while Dot McDaniel picked the 4-5-7.

   The Friday evening Mixed League had Dale Benedict rolling a 232, 55 pins over average, while Beth Barnes rolled a 165, 188, and another 188 for a 541 series. She has a 140 average. 145 average bowler Lindy Henkelman rolled a 213, 190, and a 155, for a 558 series. The 213 was 63 pins over her average.

Jessica Barnes picked up the 3-10 split, Tom Gebhart picked up the 2-10, and Rose picked up the 2-7-10 split. 

   Coming back over the state line from Covington, we visited the Friday Nite Mixed League, and once again, the scores are fantastic. Leading the way, were several men who bowled over 250, they were: Joe Cox with a 251, Rich McFarland, 279, Jim Thomas 256, and Wayne Brown Sr., 269. For the women, we have Teresa Cloyd getting a 254, Brandi Welsch 238,  and Nicole Brown with both a 225, and a 266, and a 647 series. Terrence Cloyd rolled a 696 series, and Rich McFarland had an even 700.

     Other Friday nite bowlers 50 or more pins over average were: Donte Baxter 231 (158), and Shawn Tietz 234 (183).

     As you know, I like to go over some of the rules from time to time, especially when it comes to fouls.  What happens if the foul lights are not working? Would my 300 game count if they weren’t. Here’s what the rules say:

5c. Foul Detection

A USBC approved automatic foul detecting device must be used, if available. When not available or temporarily inoperative, the following procedures shall be used to call fouls:

1.  In tournament play, management shall assign a foul judge or have the official scorers call fouls.

2.  In league play, the opposing team captains shall call fouls or a foul judge shall be appointed.

Failure to provide for the calling of fouls as specified shall disqualify scores bowled for USBC High

Score Award consideration.

     So, if the foul lights are NOT working at your center, make sure the team captains are watching and calling fouls, or an appointed foul judge, when they occur. If not, that 300 game you might just have bowled, may not count.
